The definition of art.

I attented an art exhbition in glorification of Odissi yesterday evening. Many works of artists from India and Malaysia were on display at the Petronas Art Gallery. All the paintings were done with Odissi dancers and the characters they portray as the central theme.
Among the Indian classical dance traditions, Odissi is the most spiritually connected with its soulful dedication to Lord Jagannatha (Lord of the Universe) of Puri in Orissa.
The artists participating in the exhibition had the challenging and most fulfilling opportunity to exemplify the beauty and grace of the Odissi dance and its mellifluous music on their canvas and other media.
Some of the artists in particular the Malaysian artists contributed greatly to the exhibition producing intriguing pieces such as Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Syed Thajudeen, Yeoh Jin Ling, Jeganathan Ramachandran, Renee Kraal.
Instead of trying to demystify Odissi by viewing it from a practical aspect, the Malaysian artists chose to show their awe of the sacred dance.
Renowned Indian artists like Ilango and Jatin Das also through their wide experience drew out the true essence of Odissi using bold colours and flowing pencil strokes.
Rarely are artists given such a golden opportunity to bring out their best given the glorious nature of the subject matter of Odissi.
This is always the endeavour of artists to identify the essence of truth, beauty and such high levels of human consciousness for them to use as a platform to fully utilise their creative instincts.

The quest for truth, living a meaningful life isn't this what art is all about. I need not shed off my clothes or start a string of affairs or do everything differently from the masses to become an artist.
In fact as I see it art is about pursuing a life of truth against all odds, not conforming to the dictates of wrongdoers, not blindly following an untruthful and unjust establishment - which means all establishments of this modern, capitalist world.
If every person lives according to his or her conscience he is living art. He thus earns the license to create works of art be it in drawing, painting, drama, music or literature. Indeed everything that he creates is art just as an innocent child's focussed scribbling, babbling, dancing or play is artistic and delightful to behold.
This is what we call naive art. A concerted effort by the artist to improve himself usually through training produces more complicated artforms such as realistic and abstract art.
If all the world's people are artists would life on earth become a true blessing.

think art

the rat race has deprived us of the capacity to enjoy the beauty of nature and the artistry of human life. Why can't we spare a few minutes to stop our racing thoughts of our work schedule and life's competition and admire the beauty of a tree that stands silently beside our house.
The tree is the first and foremost of nature's creation and can never fail to intrigue man.
I cannot understand the rationale of this shopkeeper in Jalan Tebrau in the Johor Baru city centre who took the law into his own hands to trim clean several trees facing his shop that were planted and maintained by the city council. The shopkeeper's reasoning was that the trees were blocking the Feng Shui from his shop.
Although there is the danger of trees being uprooted during thunderstorms and falling on trees or other property even that is not reason enough to do away with trees.
I think everyone should start thinking of all the reasons why they should preserve a tree.
